NOTES FROM KENTUCKY TRAINING GROUNDS Louisville Ky March 1C Colonel Matt J Winn has consented to take charge of the approaching meeting at Lexington for the Kentucky Association He returns tomorrow from Lexington where he at ¬ tended a meeting of the Kentucky Association directors yesterday and he will go to New York within a few days to look over the improvements in progress at the Empire City track of which he is the general manager Lyman H Davis Is at present in the east on a similar mission and during his absence Edward Jasper is attending to the work in the secretarys ollice at the New Louisville Jockey Club ClubCharles Charles F Grainger president of the New Louis ¬ ville Jockey Club accompanied by Colonel Winn today visited the leading otiicials of the Louisville Railway Company and discussed plans for the han ¬ dling of the large crowd expected at Churchill Downs on Derby Day May 10 The officials of the New Louisville Jockey Club expect that 20000 persons will take advantage of the free field privilege and an attendance of nearly 40000 is expected to wit ¬ ness Waldo Fighting Bob Boca Grande Donau Joe Morris and other turf stars fight it out for supremacy in the blue ribbon event of the west westTrainer Trainer W S Hopkins has received two note ¬ worthy additions to his stable at Churchill Downs Dr J D Neet the Versailles Ky breeder shipped here to be trained by the former manager of Wai deck Stud the twoyearolds Con Carne and Rusty Coat two youngsters of unusual promise Con Carne is a son of Handsome and St Pauline by St Blaise and is a stoutly built chestnut colt that was highly tried as a yearling last fall and has been entered bv his owner in the Bashford Manor Stakes StakesRusty Rusty Coat is a racylooking bay filly by Fltz Herberts sire the great Ethelbcrt and out of the good race mare San Andres by St Andrew She has been nominated by her owner in the Debutante Stakes In this twoyearold colt and filly much interest is centered at the local tracks as their owner has contributed to the turf many stars lie had Hastings the premier sire at A Belmonts Nursery Farm Plaudit a Kentucky Derby winner and sire of King James Handsome Ferrier Hand ¬ sel Pentecost Migraine Clifton Forge Gulden and nearly a score of other stake winners and for years one of the best recommendations a colt could have with many trainers was to say he was bred In the Kindergarten Stud StudCapt Capt J T Williams has finally decided on a name for his twoyearold halfbrother to the Derby favor ¬ ite Waldo now in training in his barn at Douglas Park He has concluded to call the son of Garry Hermann Governor Gray in honor of Henry B Gray the lieutenantgovernor of Alabama who is the veteran turfmans warm friend friendCaptain Captain Williams has done little as yet with his goodlooking colt but worked him a quarter in 201 at Douglas Park Saturday lie is staked about as heavily as any twoyearold in training here both in the big events of this season and the threeyear old fixtures of 1911 I am beginning all over this season said Cap ¬ tain Williams yesterday now having only twoyear olds in training I sold off all my old horses Fundamental being the last lastFred Fred Luzader and T II Stevens have returned from French Lick Springs and have buckled down to their training work at Churchill Downs DownsWill Will Shelley who Is to serve as an official at Lexington will leave for Lexington this week and remain there until the Kentucky Association meeting is ended endedEsma Esma a twoyearold filly l y Dick Welles Re ¬ member Me II is dead as the result of pneumonia The filly contracted fever en route from Juarez Mexico to Churchill Downs and steadily grew worse after reaching the local race course Esma promised to develop into a useful racer At Juarez she ran three and onehalf furlongs In 40 seconds She was the property of J B Respess
