CHESTER KRUM BEATS GOOD ONES. Wins Santa Cruz Handicap at Oakland. Which Is Marred hy Mishap at Start. San Francisco. Cal., May 14. — Chester Kruin. iu winning the Santa Cruz Handicap at Oakland today, beat some of the best racers on the coast. The lace was marred bv Orbicular, the favorite, and Polite L. being as good as left at the post. When tlie barrier was sprung Follie L. wheeled in front id Orbicular and blocked him. Chester Krutn beat the gate, but jockey Buxton allowed Raleigh and Kid North to set the pace. He moved up gradually ami. taking the lead in the final sixteenth, won in a drive with Kaleigh. after causing jockey Coburn to take up yonie. Kev Hindoo closed fast and was third. There were a number of upsets. Rosa mo being the only favorite to land. Dacia. at 20 to 1. showed much improvement with light weight and won the two-year-old race. Bit of Fortune proved the winner of the sprinting race. Hinocular. the favorite, bled am! the heavily-backed Fernando showed only a flash of early speed. Redeem, well handled by Jockey Callahan, won the fifth from -Eddie Graney. John Louis, the first choice, was poorlv handled. Rosatno was hid up from MM to MM ky . Johnson, but was retained. Burns and Waterhouse have sold Pearl Bass to C. B. Heath for SMf. II. Nancolas bought Coppers. Jake Holtmau will send the fields away commencing Monday. A carload of horses will leave tomorrow for Salt Lake. In the shipment will go E. M. Frv. Fernando. Gossipcr II.. Charley Paine. Ellerd. Rosevalc, Bell flower. Copperfield and Enfield. Jockey Yandusen will leave for Salt Lake. F. Rinehart will ship Metiingo and others, to Ogden Wednesday.
