ROUND THE WORLD A 00 WEANLING. Lexington. Ky.. May 14. — Round tlie World, the swift-running daughter of Lackford and Nellie Bly. which equaled the Churchill Downs track record of 47 for half a mile when she won the first time out last Tuesday and scored a sparkling victory over Golden Egg and Princess Industry in the Debutante Stakes on Thursday, was bred by Col. Milton Young. Round tlie World, a robust chestnut filly with no white save a small round star, was foaled at McGrathiana Stud. May 9. IMS, and was sold as a weanling at the McGrathiana dispersal in October UaMS to W. J. Young, biihling for Col. W. K. Apple gate, for 00. She was sent to the farm of John D. Carr and remained there until last fall when she was turned over to John Rodegap to lie broken by him at the Kentucky Association track. She was a good scholar and when Rodegap delivered the Apple-gate yearlings to trainer William Walker this spring #i Louisville, she was considered the fleetest of the fillies, but it was not until recently that Colonel Applcgat" and his racing partner. W. J. Yanke. were aware that in her they possessed the speed marvel that she has shown to be. There is a division of opinion as to whether she may lie the superior of C. L. Harrisons Housemaid, winner of the Breeders Futurity. Round the World is a lengthy, good-looking chestnut filly, of more than average size, with the gliding action of a red fox. Her sire. Lackford. was brought to this country by H. Eugene Leigh and located by him in McGrathiana Stud. He was a stake and handicap winner in England up to a mile and a half and is yet a comparatively young horse, being now fifteen years old. He is a son of Juggler, a high-class race horse, that was by Touchet. another high-class racer, and a son of Iird Lyon, winner of the Triple Crown, the Two Thousand Guineas. Derby and St. Legcr. His dam. Caillech. is a daughter of the Two Thousand Guineas winner. Galliard. and she in turn is out of Scotch Hag. by Blair Athol, winner of the Derby and St. Leger. He is from the No. 9 family of the Bruce Lowe figure system. On her dams side. Round the World also comes from a family of stake winners, her fourth dam being imported Maud, dam of Alarm, the sire of Hiniyar. Nellie Bly. the dam of Round the World. was herself a stake winner. At two she won the Nursery Stakes and at three she took the Monmouth Oaks from such good ones as Kildeer and Reckon. Maumee. the dam of Nellie Blv. was a stake winner and produced Musuiee. Madelaine and Bayard II. Mainline, the dam of Maumee. produced also Marauder. Maudlin. Empress Catoctin. Oden. Clover-brook. Piccolo. Galway. Klizalicth and Minerva. Nellie Bly is now twenty-two years old and is at William Steeles Horse Haven Farm on tlie Newton pike near this city, where she has a good-looking yearling bay fillv by Monsieur de LOrtne. Mr. Steele bought hoy. carrying this foal, for K at the McGrathiana dispersal. Colonel Young having purchased her from David Gideon. After her racing days this daughter of Stratford went into the stud at 1 1 1 imli I and to the cover of His Highness produced the winners Neda. Blytheness. Nellie Russell and Globe Runner. Frieze, bv Standing, is another of her daughters to win. Cruise, hy Silver Fox. is the only one of her produce that has raced and not won. Nellie Bly had no foal this year. Sho inissed to Peep oDay. Mr. Steele sent her this spring to the court of Singleton, the young St. Simon horse at August Belmonts Nursery Stud. Round the World lias no other stake engagements at Hie Louisville meeting. Neither is she engaged at Latonia. but she is entered in some of the eastern events to be run during the coming summer and she is also uninitiated for the Kentucky Oaks of next year.
