DEATH OF A KENTUCKY DERBY WINNER. Elizabethtown, Ky.. July 1. — The famous race horse. Riley, winner of the Kentucky Derby of l89i . died today of old age. He was being kept here hy an association formed for the purpose of taking care of aged anil broken-down horses. Riley was a big bay horse by Longfellow — Geneva, bv War Dance. Me was foaled in 1SS7 and was a high-class race horse. In his four and five-year old form lie was raced over the eastern tracks and at one time and another defeated about all of the celebrities of the day except the great mare. Fir.-nze. He was a successful sire and a number of his daughters have proved line broodmares, one being the dam of Mr. Whitneys splendid horse. Burgomaster.
