EXCELLENT PROSPECTS FOR JAMESTOWN. Saratoga. N. Y., August 20. — According to those who are behind the coining meeting at Jamestown, near Norfolk, Vs., dates for which were granted recently, the Old Itominion is to have the greatest meeting ever held within the borders of the state. Virginia was the original home of the thoroughbred in this country, and it would be fitting indeed if the eastern racing season of lyjo should wind up in a blase of glory there. Bob Levy, who is the moving spirit in the meeting, is exceedingly enthusiastic. The meeting is to begin the day following the lose at Ptmlico, and it is altogether likely that many, if not most, of the iiorses that take part iu the Baltimore meet-mgwill be shipped to Jamestown. Tlie Jamestown course is a mile in circumference. Since the spring meeting. Mr. Levy announces, a full steeplechase course has 1. en built and the jumps raised to the regulation size. There will, therefore, be a number of cross-country events daring the seventeen -day a meeting. The purses to be offered Mill be 250 and up. and there will be six races dally. If the patronage warrants, a handicap of ,000 will be siren each week and thef will be several races of the value of 1 x» and $.700. Business men in Norfolk are taking keen interest in the meeting and promise to lend their support hhau riaUy ami otherwise, it has been proposed that on the opening day all the retail stores shall close ;i half nay in order to give tlie employees a chance to attend the roes. There will be plenty of stabling room, according to Mr. Levy. The preseal capacity does not exceed •loft -talis, but new stables will be built, and it is expected that the association will be able to take care of 990 horses. The club-house will likely be thrown open, and the management expects to make the meeting a society event. The program for the first six days of the meeting will be issued September 1.
