RACING GOSSIP FROM KENTUCKY. Louisville, Ky., August 27. — Horsemen at Churchill Downs and lloiiglas Park today were discussing the prospective meeting here of the sensational western two-year-olds. Governor Gray and Round the World. It seems settled that it will require no special race to bring the gelding and the filly together here, as both are among the nominations to the Golden Rod Stakes. Ever since Governor Gray in his races made good the remarkable spring trials which he scored at Douglas Park in April last, and Round the World began her triumphs in rich western and eastern stakes, their owners have been figuring on getting them together in a race. Eugene Elrod is expected here tomorrow and he will, as usual, have charge of the betting rings at the three Kentucky tracks the coining fall. Until Lexington opens on September 19, he will spend most of his time in that city, as the betting pavilion Is being improved. Save for a cloaning-up process, no change will be made in the betting quarters at Churchill Downs this fall, though an extra machine or two will be put on to accommodate the horde of bettors sure to come to this meeting from the east. The track today was much improved and was drying out fast from the effects of the rain of Thursday night. The going being a trifle slow no attempt was made by any horse either at Churchill Downs or Douglas Park to do any fast work. Trainer Westmoreland allowed several of his yearling fillies to run eighths around thirteen seconds. One that seemed especially fleet of foot is a daughter of The noted Bessie McCarthy. Those who were familiar with that mare say that her daughter is her counterpart.
