OCEAN BOUND IS THE FAVORITE. Probable Stsrteis and Jockeys for Tomorrows Running of the St. Leger at Louisville. Louisville. Ky.. September 29. — II is regarded as probable that the field for the St. Leger Handicap, the feature of the inauguration of the [all race meeting at Churchill Downs Saturday afternoon, will embrace sixteen horses. All of the others whose names appear here worked a mile slowly, except ClHIl IJUMi Mary Davis, Countless and Emperor William, which are not due here from Lexington until tomorrow. the consensus, of opinion is that Ocean Bound will rule a mild favorite, with Countless a strong second choice. S. C Hildreth will have no starter in the St. Leger. Secretary Lyinan H. Davis received a telegram today from the owner of Fitz Herbert and Novelty, stating that be would not come west this fall with his string, as his horses are not ready to race. Mr. Hildreth was sincere in his original intention to come here, as shown by his payment of |300 entrance nomination fees in the local stakes. His message indicates that his horses have been to some extent ailing since the Saratoga meeting. W. A. Kirwan arrived from St. Louis with fourteen horses owned by Harney Schreiber. In the shipment were Woodlands Bone, Florence A.. Rodman. Fred Esse;!. Ann Schuyler. Emma L.. Judge Henderson and Vreelau d. Mr. Kirwan says Mr. Schreiber has eighty-six yearlings and that the youngsters in the lot by Sain look to l o better than any hitherto produced hy that noted stallion. Other arrivals today at Churchill Downs were James Everman. with T. M. Green and three others; E. Corrigan. with ten, which came direct from the far west; J. Baker, with nine, including the La-tonla Derby winner .Toe Morris. Jeff Bernstein, Aspirin. Alice Baird, J. W. Carter and four two-year-olds. Jockey Conley arrived today from the west, where he has been riding on the iuter-inountaiu circuit.
