PLANS FOR REBUILDING AT MARLBORO Work of Constructing Entirely New Course to Be Undertaken at Once and Stakes to Be Opened Marlboro Aid October 17 The management of the Southern Maryland Racing Association announces that the inaugural meeting which closed at Marlboro track last week was a financial success The re ¬ building of the plant will be undertaken forthwith The new course will in no sense be ail enlargement of the old one The old course will be entirely ob ¬ literated A new grandstand with its back to the afternoon sun will be built close by the Chesapeake Reach Railroad which will deliver passengers at its Sates The fair buildings and stables will occupy the heights behind the present grandstand and a track for the trotters one mile around will be built Inside the main course The field enclosed by the trotting track will constitute part of the steeple ¬ chase course which will extend far beyond the con Jnes of the main track A fine brook ripples through the property and an effort will be made to have a real oldfashioned water jump such as they have at Aintree in the steeplechase course But whether this can be arranged or not there will be a couple of post and rail fences and a stone wall for the nunters to clear clearThe The construction of such a plant will realize the old dream of a great track between Baltimore and Washington easy of access to the sportloving folk f both cities Arthur Klrod the moving spirit in the enterprise is satisfied that the new course can bo built this winter and got in shape partially at least for racing next spring He will open ten or twelve stakes in the course of the winter with the Idea of racing fifteen days in the spring either just before meetingAir or just after the Pimlico meeting Air Elnxl and his associates have already made up their minds to have George W Leavitt Jr of Xev York who constructed the Saratoga Woodbine Winnipeg and Belmont Park courses build their new plant and it is safe to predict that the Prince George County track will more nearly resemble the one at Saratoga than any other with which east ¬ erners are familiar
