DAY OF CLOSE FINISHES GOOD SPORT PROVIDED AT M0NCRIEF DESPITE BAD TRACK CONDITIONS. Course in Worse Shape Than Ever Danfield Changes Hands by Run-Up Process After Hard-Earned Victory in Selling Race. Jacksonville, Fla.. January 4. The track conditions at Moncrief Park this afternoon, were even worse than those of yesterday. The going was deep and heavy and slow time recorded. The finishes in a majority of the races were close, one of the six winners having more than a length to spare at the finish. My Gal and Spindle were first home by short heads, while Danfield beat Rye Straw half a length. Danfields victory came in the feature race of the program, the Lakeland Selling Stakes, a dash of live furlongs for three-year-olds anil over. He won after a hard struggle witli Rye Straw. This pair raced like a team all the way and it Was only in the last twenty yards that Danfield managed to get his head in front. Rye Straw beat Planutess a half length and then followed King Cobalt, an other half length away and a head in advance of Darling. It was a rattling good finish. Trainer Dave Woodford was on hand when the winner was put up for sale in the paddock and promptly loosted him 00 over his entered price of 00 and secured . him for the Roverwyck Stable for .00O. A Three favorites won. the successful choices being Mindinette, May Amelia and Danfield. Sweeney rode two winners, Golden iu the first race and My Gal in the last.
