MONCRIEF HAS BALMY DAY 3 IDEAL CLIMATIC CONDITIONS RESPONSIBLE FOR BIG CROWD AT TRACK. c r t R. D. Williams Plays Conspicuous Part in After- noons Racing Results and Has to Stand Two Run-Ups Following Victories of His Horses. J I Jacksonville, Fla., January 11. Ideal racing conditions brought out one of the largest midweek crowds or the season at Moncrief today. With a much-improved track and weather that reminded ono of the balmy spring day in the north, outdoor 1 tqxirt was a treat. The club provided an excellent I program, the features of which were the Lake City Selling Stakes, and a race for two-year-olds. The i colors of. 11. D. Williams were conspicuous. His two-year-old. Efficiency, finished second in the open- 1 ing dash, while Glucose captured the Lake City Sell- . tug Stakes and Alfred the Great took the fifth race. The last two races were selling affairs, and both Glucose and Alfred the Great were boosted, the former 03 and the latter 05 over their entered : prices. J. W. May and Nat Byer were responsible for the bidding. Owner Williams protected both . horses, buying in Glucose for ,205 and Alfred the ; Great for ,505. i The only winning favorite was Alfred the Great. Tlie running of Friend Harry in the Lake City Selling Stakes was a distinct disappointment after his splendid showing on Monday, -when ho ran Ragman to a head. In todays race he was never prominent at any stage and was beaten off a dozen lengths by the leaders. The sixth race furnished the closest finish of the afternoon, Brevite, after a long, hard stretch drive, just getting up to boat Ilcau Itmmmcl by the shortest of heads in the closing stride. The two-year-old race went to Irishtown, a good-looking filly by Irish Lad Gold Mint. Irishtown led her field from start to finish and won easily by a couple of lengths. In her previous effort. Irishtown showed a good performance and looks like a filly that may develop into a useful sort. T. C. .McDowell sent a good-looking youngster to the post in this race in Mazard, a chest;mt filly by Mazagan Mo-narka. Shu showed speed in the race, but ran rcf nly ami will probably show improvement in her next trial. Guy Gray sold the three-year-old Trustee to J. Karat this morning "limb, the colt was turned over to James MeLauguliJUIr. Pesconmets was jumped on and cut in his race of yesterday and the Injuries he sustained will lay him up for a couple of weeks. Jockey Musgrave has signed a contract to again ride for J. E. Seagram, for whom he lias ridden on the Canadian tracks several seasons. He will depart for Canada at the dose of this meeting.
