Kerry. The San Francisco Chronicle comments on recent developments in connection with the proposed anti-betting legislation in California as follows: "The news from .Sacramento, although not unexpected by any means, was a crushing blow to layers, 1 miners and owners of race horses. There was a ray of hope when the announcement was made that all interests were to be given consideration at the special conference on Thursday. The result showed, however, that everything had been cut and dried, and that no argument would have had any effect. According to a gentleman present at the session, Thomas II. Williams, president of the New California Jockey Club, made a tolling spweh. W. OD. Muedonough also made a favorable talk, explaining the hardship that the new bill would work on the breeding interests. Hut nothing could have stemmed the tide. There will le a big exodus to Juarez in the near future.. Nearly all the prominent stables will be tOilpped to that point, and the California racing law-Will certainly prove a big boon to the track across from HI Paso. Juarez will cut a big figure on the lacing man. as it will secure a great part of the patronage accorded to California in past years." 11 was expected that the Walker bill would come up in the Senate yesterday for third reading and final passage, but it had not been reported by the committee on engrossment and another delay of a day ensued. The Young hill, which is a duplicate of the Walker bill, passed to engrossment without amendment in the Assembly. This, in the opinion of Senator Walker, will cause some delay, as the Senate bill lias been amended to go into effect fifteen days after approval. It is now possible that the Walker-Young measure may not reach Governor Johnson until next week. If he does not sign the bill immediately, racing may continue until Washingtons Kirthday.
