i - KING GEORGE S HORSES IN TRAINING .X. . . Jr. T In nothing docs sport-loving England take more interest than in King Georges stable and if it achieves a fair measure of success in its first year of racing in his name, it will bring rejoicing from John OGroats House to Lands End. Whether it is to lie a strong stable or not is in suspension awaiting the all settling test of the race track, but if good breeding goes for anything, the royal colors should be seen in triumph frequently. An English writer of much experience has recently given the following analysis of the membership of the stable. "The old hands remaining are Royal Escort, by Diamond Jubilee out of Ambleside, which will be invaluable for leading work, if for no other purpose; Marie I.egrave, bv Diamond Jubilee out of White Lilac, and bamia". by Diamond Jubilee out of Amphitheatre. Then come the three-year-olds, of which the colt bv Florizel II. Meadow Chat gave us a taste of his quality when at Ills first essay lie. beat the Persimmon Dame dOr colt, Nerestah. Mushroom, Persism and other speedy youngsters after a close finish for the Khedive Plate behind the Ditch. St. Anton subsequently gave him eight pounds and three-quarters of a length beating in the Free Handicap, and finally he was unplaced under. 121 pounds for the Knowsley Nursery at Liverpool. All the same lie is an extremely nice colt that should pay his way, but those who have talked of him in connection with the Derby must have overlooked the fact that his nomination for that great event is Devils Dvke neatly named, by Robert le Diable out of Sweet Vernal, a consistent runner and a winner must be accounted among, the usefuls, especially as he appeared to stay well. Another winner is Petschau. a pretty filly by Persimmon out of Loch Doou, which has a couple of brackets to her credit, and was a long way Crom being disgraced when she failed by two lengths to give House of Orange seventeen pounds in the Criterion Nursery seven furlongs at the Houghton Meeting. Perse-Klis. a beautifully bred filly by . Persimmon .out of Medora, is a maiden that may safely be relied upon to earn her living, as may . also Sweet Alison, by Thrush out of Ecila, the dam of Princess de Galles, while a good opinion is entertained of the filly by St. Serf out of Kentish Cherry, In spite of having been unplaced in her .onft eJjsaj;.Iasf.yeari to Wiinkler. Mlnehoad- and- Lnnglioat -fox the Berkshire, loal Stakes at Newburv. She was bred -at the Langtoit Hall Stud, and, an own sister to Strickland, was purchased as a yearling by Lord Marcus Beresrord for 0.-500, who had previously bought out of the same team the colt by Ayrshire out of Lady Alwyne for ,000. The last-mentioned has yet to make his first appearance in public, and the same remark applies in the case each of Juggernaut, a bay colt bv St. Simon out of Amphora dam of Glass Jug ahd Perrier. and Glad Tidings, a chestnut filly by Gallinule out of Laodamia dam of Slim Lad and Simpatica. Of the ten two-year-olds uow domiciled at Egerton House only half were reared at the Sandringham Stud, which had a most unfortunate season in 1001. when Meadow Clint proved barren to Velocity. Medora dam of Zlnfandel was in similar condition to Florizel II., and Nadejda own sister to Florizel II., Persimmon and Diamond Jubilee missed to Cvllene. Nor did the troubles end here, for Ecila cast her colt foal by Cylleue, Persian Lilacs foal bv Orvieto survived three: days only and that of White Lilac dam of Marie Legraye by Desmond was stillborn. Thus Mr. Walker bad but six yearlings to turn over to Richard Marsh when the time came to put them in Training, and of these one is missing from the Egerton House list, allusion he- ing made to a bay colt by Florizel II. out of Amphora. "The five remaining comprise a bay colt by Florizel II. out of Loch Doon dam of Pearl of the Loch, Perla and Petschau, a bay colt by Thrush out of Laodamia, a chestnut colt by Florizel II. out of Guinea Hen, a chestnut filly by Flying Fox out of April Princess, and a bay filly by Florizel II.-out of Sweet Vernal. The strangers if the term be permissible in the team are a bay colt by Lord Hobs out of Mirabelle. by Persimmon, which was acquired from the Wisdom Stud, by Lord Marcus, who Iwmglit the mare with foal at foot, and covered again by the same horse for .00O. From the Stud Book I gather that the bay colt by Volodyovski out of Runaway Match was bred by Lord Marcus, and there are in addition a bay colt by Thrush out of Konim Oarlinchen. a brown colt by Missel Thrush out of Zarine. and a chestnut tilly by Martagon out of Mundon. To Ctipt. C 15. Wood must be accredited the breeding of the Zarine colt, as she was carrying the foal when John Porter liought her for 25. while the Mundon filly Is recorded as bred by Alfred Sadlert who bought the mare covered bv Zin-fandel in 3107 for 2,050. The daughter of Earwig and Maundy Money had tired out the patience of her former owner. IT. E. Beddlngton, as. after having produced Hnka in 1104 she was barren in 1905. had a still-liorn colt -foal by Rising Glass in her following season and missed again in 1007 and 190S. but when next mated with Martagon produced the filly now in his .Majestys stable. Komm Carlinchen is an Austrian-bred mare 1001. by Bonavista, out of Komainasszony winner ot the Austrian Oaks, by St. Serf out of Thoughtless, and, together with Runaway Match by .Matchmaker out of Pensee Fugitive and Mundon, was sent up to the December sales at Newmarket, without, however, changing hands. As has been previously announced Lord Marcus Beresrord continues in the management of both the royal breeding and racing studs. Richard Marsh is retained as private trainer at Egerton House and Herbert Jones will lie first jockey to his Majesty. The king has recently given names to three of Ins three-year-olds and seven of his two-vear-olds. This leaves three of the latter age yet to bo named and. the names, breeding and ages of the components of the royal stable are as follows: Royal Escort, ch. g, 5, by Diamond Jubilee Ambleside.
