TAMPA HAS CASE OF FALSE START. Tampa, 11a., February 2. One of those rare incidents of a starter overlooking one of the entrants came in the second race when the field was dispatched without the presence of Hiram at the post. His absence was entirely overlooked by the starter and accounted for the judges calling it no contest, after the others bad fought it out with Lady Maxim first at the finish. Locust Bud second and Black Domino third. The officials decided to rerun the race; after the sixth race was decided. All the liets made on the race were ordered to stand. Grandissiino was supiwsed to be the goods in the race, but be was decisively taken into camp on lKith occasions. Lucky Mate fell in the lirst running and was beaten at the second trial by Kusticaiia, the winner, by the shortest kind of a margin. Otto Stifel, which went poorly in the false race, showed a much-improved effort in the runoff and lauded third place. The backers of Hiram, which had caused all the trouble, were jubilant after the judges decision that the race would be re-run. for they argued that he would have all the licst of it by not contesting in the false start. He disappointed them badly by trailing for the entire trip. The lietting ring embroglio was satisfactorily adjusted this morning, when Sam Stephens relinquished, his lease to the former management. They in turn contracted with Smith. Colby and Jones for the iKtting privilege. The management of the plant reverts back to J. U. Strode, who will be in charge until the expiration of the- racing term here. Smith, Colby and Jones announced their intention of prolonging the racing here beyond the originally scheduled closing date, lire same officials who have served since the beginning will continue to fill their positions. The judges made a modification today in their original ruling against jockey Pickett by giving him permission to ride Tony W. in his starts here. Todays racing furnished the closest finishes of the meeting. Nearly all the winners gained their decisions by the closest kind of mnrgins and it required the judicial placing to determine the victors. Sam Stephens, his associates and bookmaking assistants, departed tonight for Jacksonville.
