PLATERS PROVIDE RACING- JACKSONVILLE CARD GIVEN OVER FOR A DAY TO CHEAPER CLASS OF HORSES. Results More Formful Than for Some Days Past El Oro Comes in for a Boost After Winning, But Is Protected. Jacksonville. Fla., February 3. Tlie usual Friday card was offered at Morierief this afternoon, the conditions of all but ouu of the races being framed to suit the cheaper class of platers. One of the races was a Breeders Purse, with a provision that the winner should become the property of the association. The attendance was good, the warm, pleasant weather bringing out the full quota of race-goers. The racing was more formful than for ten days past, the lays results showing four favorites first at the finish. In only one instance was the finish at all close, this being the third, which "Snapper" Garrisons Golden beat Miuta a neck after a stirring drive. Under Mr. Garrisons handling Golden has developed into a useful racer. El Oro, winner of tlie sixth race, was boosted 00 over his entered price by R. D. Williams, but was protected and bought in by his owner. It was the horses lirst victory at the meeting. Three riders came under the ban this afternoon as a result of misbehavior at the post. Schuttlnger was given suspension for six days, Loflus for four and Warren for three days. . Among the visitors at the track tills afternoon was W. Yawkey. owner of the Detroit baseball team. He is on his way to Palm Reach and stopped hero for a few days to take in the races. Jockey L. McCabe arrived this morning from Tampa. He will ride for P. S. P. Randolph during the remainder of the meeting here. Woodlane and Grenida were excused from starting by the judges this afternoon. The Schorr mare developed serious lameness and- wijl be on the shelf for the remainder of the meeting. Grenida was suffering from an eruption on tlie- forearm. - Jeorge Waubaum. who has been here for a week, left this morning for his winter homo at Oriuoud Reach. A numlier of horsemen now racing at Oakland, Cal.. which track is to close February 15, have wired heit; for stabling. Several messages were received today asking as to accommodation. Manager Brown will provide aeeoinuiodations for all who care to come. Ring manager Elrod was notified that several of the layers will be here next week. John Walters, who came here a week or so ago and then went back to Kentucky, returned today and will put Mclvor, his Derby eligible, into active training at once.
