NOVELTY RACES ATTRACT MONCRIEF PARK MANAGEMENT ENTERTAINS LARGEST CROWD IN HISTORY OF COURSE. Mclisandc Beats Governor Gray a Neck in Feature Race, a Thrcc-Quartcr-Mile Handicap Renewed Activity in Selling Race Bidding:. Jacksonville, Fla.. February 14. Today was Ladies Day at Moncriof Park and the largest crowd by far that ever witnessed thoroughbred racing in Florida turned out to participate in the afternoons sport. General .Manager Brown provided two specials, one a mile dash for mules and another an eighth of a mile race for goats. These two events aroused great Interest locally. A mule named Simon Slick won the mule race by a length and a half. The conditions could not have been improved . ukii and the occasion was a gala one. The grand-Maud was decorated with Hags and bunting and liotted palms were spattered about the promenade and aisles. .Satin souvenir programs were presented t each woman present by J. C. Campau. Four of I lie six races furnished stirring contests and two of the finishes found the winners lirst home by small margins. It was a disastrous day for the books. A majority of the winners led all the way. The feature race, a three-quarters mile handicap, went to Mclisandc, which beat Governor Gray a neck. Mclisandc was an odds-on favorite and was ridden by McTaggart. The latter also piloted Kew Haven, winner of the two-year-old race, and Voltaire, winner of the fifth race. The winners in three of the four selling races were boosted. Oakhurst was raised .$:!00 over his entered price of 00 by Bootli Thompson, but was protected and bought in by his owner, Capt. I. M., Walker. Voltaire "was boosted 1911.sh00 by S. A. Clopton and the auctioneer knocked down the colt to him at ,000. "Bobble" McKeever protested the sale, claiming that he had protected the colt and Mr. Clopton agreed to let him have the horse on his bid of ,000. The judges were agreeable and the colt was" returned to Mr. McKeever. James Blute bid up Kadiuni Star from 00 to 2KG03. at which ligure owner J. W. Burttschell bid him in. Among the visitors to the course were Green B. Morris and John .1. McGraw. The former came from Juarez, while Mr. v,MeGrav came . from New York. It was on exhibition this afternoon at the track.
