OAKLAND MEETING TO CLOSE TODAY. San Francisco. Oil., February 14. Likely Dieu-donue, leading all the way, won- the Partiug Handicap from good opposition at Oakland today. Pluvious was a heavily backed favorite, but was carried wide at the head of the stretch. He closed gamely at the finish. Likely 0eudnue was only a neck iu advance of hint. Third money went to Winning Widow. Fine weather favored the siwrt and there was a large attendance. Jockey Archibald was in the limelight by riding, three winners. His superior finishing ability was responsible for the victory of Sleeplaud over Alamitos in the first race. Rinda took the fifth nice fropi Silver Knight, on which Pickens made a tardy move. G. W. Berry planned to rest the Spreckcls two-year-olds and then go- to Baltimore, but he may decide tomorrow to go to Juarez. If he does jockey Shilling will go along to ride the youngsters. R. F. Carman has cugngcd jockey Archibald to ride for his stable in the east, commencing April 24. K. Moyne bid up Raleigh from ?S00 to ,000, but the horse was retained. Jockey "V. Knapp will start tomorrow for Now York en route to Germany. He. Vincent Powers and Fred Herbert will sail February 23. Horsemen were highly pleased by the news that the Juarez meeting will be extended to April 1. A number had already planned to ship to the Mexicau track and others will doubtless decide to do so. Among those who will leave San Francisco within a few .days are A. !. Blakeley. William Cahill aud W. J. Spiers. Jockey Glass will go to Juarez with Mr. Blakeley aud later will ride in the east for R. T. Wilson and Capt. E. B. Cassatt. J. Simon Healey left San: Francisco this evening for Pennsylvania, where he will take up the eastern string of Captain Cassatt and prepare for the season on the metropolitan tracks. Five horses that he retained after the weedlng-out sale of the stable at Oakland will be taken east with the stable of Eugene Moyne. The Oakland meeting will come to a close tomorrow, as ou the following day the Walker-Young law, which rigidly prohibits all forms of betting, will become effective.
