SIR JOHN JOHNSON SCORES. Eastern Crack Makes. Auspicious Debut at Moncricf Park Selling Race Run-Ups Continue, Jacksonville. Flu., February 15. One of the best mid-week cards of the season was offered at Moncricf lark this afternoon and, with racing conditions the next thing to perfect, a large gathering turned out to witness the sport. The presence of that great racer. Sir John Johnson, in the third race, lent added interest to the program and in a measure made this race overshadow . the stake feature. Sir John Johnson was. making his first appearance in. public in this section .aud he attracted considerable attention, both in his. preliminary gallop aud the paddock parade. He was favorite at all stages and despite the fact that rumor had it that he was not quite screwed up to a race, he was well backed by the public. Sir John Johnson won, but he had to he ridden out in the homestretch to stand off Premier and The Squire, both of which finished with good siwed. The winner had only a head to spare at the finish, but with this race under his belt, he probably will bo bard to beat from now on. His race today was iu the nature of a final preparation for the Live Oak Handicap to be run next Saturday. The Key West Selling stakes, a three-quarters mile dash, went to Jack Parker, which won with great ease after trailing his field, to the stretch. Wrap set the early pace and led to the stretch turn, where Star Blue caught and passed her. In the stretch Jack Parker moved up with a rush and won going away. Three wiimers of selling races were boosted. Two of them were .protected by their owners, but Kdwin L. changed hands after his victory in the closing dash. He was entered for 00 :lid went to the Beverwyck Stable on- trainer Dave Woodfords bid of 700. After Goleondu won the fifth race Louis Tauber boosted him 00, but he was protected and lKHight iiv by his owner for 005. Dave Nicol had his first Avinutng mount of the meeting. He piloted WfflterSebrt in the two-year-old race and scored 4y it rouSiing"good finish in the very last stride. Wayne Joplin arrived from Tampa this morning with all his. horses. C. O. Brown purchased Monlagnio of Mrs. L. M. Britton this morning and "tile" Beverwyck Stable purchased Front How of I-y 1.iii1m;1. W. Joeke.v-Lofhtswns. suspended for a week by the judges for interfering "with Jockey Bell in the llfth race. There is no truth in a rirjiort sent, out to the effect that !overnou Gilchrist .bad .stated he would veto any bill for the continuance of racing that the Florida legislature might pass. He has made -no statement on the subject up to the present time, nor will ho. . Trainer Dave Woodford asked to have Sir John Johnson excused from the race that he won today.
