WEIGHTS ON AMERICAN HORSES ABROAD. Weights apportioned the horses engaged in the important handicaps of the English spring and early summer racing season, were made public January 2i. Acceptances were due Tuesday, January 31,- and by this time ante-pout prices are on offer against the horses in the Lincolnshire Handicap. In all events to which he was nominated. Sir Martin was given the unenviable dignity of top weight, but nothing less could be expected in the absence of Lemberg. When Sir Martin broke out with an obstinate and dangerous skin disease directly after the running of the Ascot Gold Cup. it was assumed that he was a Blck horse at the time and his complete failure in that great race was fully accounted for. He is reported to have quite recovered and doing all that could be desired of a good horse in winter quarters. In brief Sir Martin has been assigned 132 pounds in the City and Suburban Handicap of one and a quarter miles at Epsom: 133 pounds in the Victoria Cup of seven furlongs at Hurst Park and 128 pounds in the Kempton Park Great Jubilee Handicap of one and a quarter miles at Kempton Park. If he starts in any of these, a matter that is doubtful, it will probably be in the Great Jubilee at Kempton Park May 13. However, it is more probable that Sir Martin will be reserved for another try at the Ascot Gold Cup, which is a wcight-for-age race and that Dalmatian will , represent Mr. Winans in the handicaps. Taking the handicaps in the order of their running, the American-owned and American-bred horses in the Lincolnshire Handicap and II. P. Whitneys Perseus, 114 pounds and New Castle, 103 pounds; E. Tanners Esperanto,. 100 pounds; G. A. Pren-. lices Wamba, 102 pounds; A. C. Mandaras Dounez Moi,, 90 pounds, and P. Nelkes Oversight, SS pounds. Esperanto and Wamba are castolTs from the Keene stable and Oversight from 11. "P. Whitneys. The Lincolnshire will be run March 21 over the straight mile at Lincoln and if trained for it. New Castle has a great chance. Sunder, a very fast horse, is top weight at 120 pounds. He started in six races last year, won them all and is considered the fastest sprinter in England. He can stay also, as he showed when he won the mile and a quarter St. James Stakes at Kempton Park last August. Cocksure is next to him with 124 pounds and the French horse, Sitllet, third with 121. As the Lincolnshire is the first "big handicap of the year it is al-wavs invested with a measure of importance out of proportion with its value or .,500 guaranteed. It will be run Tuesday. March 21. The next event of importance is the Liverpool Spring Cup at a mile, which will be run March 23. Heretofore it was a race for three-year-olds and over,, hut this year it is a race for three-year-olds excluslvelv and is of the value of ,000. Two Irish colts, Duke of Padua and Carwardiue II. have been made top weights at 120 i6unds each. The American candidates ;ire Charles. "Carrolls Beck-messer at 107 pounds and II. P. Whitneys Hardy-burg at 102 pounds. Beckmesser is by Meddler Becky" Sharp and won twice last year, taking the Grenvilie Maiden Plate at Batli and the . Douglas Plate at Lanark. Hardybiirg is by Hamburg Endurance by Right. He is said to lie prdniising, but was unplaced In his two races last year. The Queens Prize of $.1,000 at a mile and a half will be -run at Kempton Park April 17. Bronzino is top weight at 12S pounds. Cocksure is second at 12C, Admiral Togo HI. third at 125 and then come Charles O.Maliey and the" "American colt Dalmatian I at 124 pounds each. By this token Dalmatian would not be rated many pounds below the Derby winncr.-Lemberp, and- is distinctly cast to play the part of a good horse with no favor shown. The ouly other Americans entered are August Belmonts staying colt. Merry Task, which lias been allotted 112 pounds, and J. B. Joels Watercress filly, Water-weed, which is In light at 92 pounds. The time-honored Great Metropolitan Handicap of ,000 at two miles and a quarter is to be decided at Epsom April IS. Columbus and Waterweed are the Anierican-breds in this long distance race. Hero Declare is the top weight at 12S pounds with last years Cesarewitch winner, Vcrncy, next at 125 pounds. Columbus has been given 109 pounds and Waterweed 90. The more valuable 0,000 City and Suburban Handicap over a mile and a quarter will be lun on the same track the next day. In this the Americans are Mr. Winans Sir Martin and Dalmatian. Following Sir Martin as highweight at 132 pounds. Bachelors Double is second with 120. Dean Swift third at 123 and next are Mustapha, Dalmatian and Bronzino with 121 each. It will be noted that Bronzino has been given four pounds more than Dalmatian at a mile and a half at Kempton Park, while here they are rated as equal at a mile and a quarter, the obvious deduction being that the handicappers consider Bronzino the better stayer of the two. Yet Dalmatian was distinctly a stayer in this country. Th5 Victoria Cup of 1911.sh,250 at seven furlongs will be run at Hurst Park Saturday, April 29. In this event the American horses are Sir Martin, 133 pounds.. Dalmatian, 122. Whisk Broom, 117, Perseus, 113, Bashti, 107, Borrow, 102 and Top o the Morning, 99. It is noticeable that Bashti is rated five pounds better than the Middle Park Plate winner. Borrow. It seems bad handicapping and at the weights and distance no horse is more likely to prove the winner than Borrow. In this race Christmas Daisy, the double Cambridgeshire winner, is second to Sir" Martin in the weights with 12S pounds and, despite his speed, is well taken care of. The 5,000 Kempton Park Great Jubilee Handicap at a mile and a quarter will be run at Kempton Park: May 13. It is the richest handicap of English racing and naturally is contested by high-class handicap horses and is only won after a severe and trying race. Four American horses are in it. Sir Martin, 12S. Dalmatian. 117. Wbisk Broom. 112 and Merry Task. 100. while such English celebrities as Buckwheat, 124, Bachelors Double. 123, Dean Swift, 119. Mustapha, 117. The Story. 112, Tressady, 112, Halcyon, 111. Winkipop, 107, Lonawand and Spanish Prince, 108, WiHonyx, 105. Rochester. 104, Havdon and Maid of Corinth. 101, Merry Jack, 99 and Demosthenes, 97 are sure to furnish .formidable opposition. American-bred horses figure in the weights given for such less important events as the Batthyauy Plate at Lincoln, Derbyshire Plate at Derby and Neward Plate at Nottingham, but the general scope of their place in the estimation of Englands official handicappers has been sufficiently Indicated in the greater events here treated.
