GUY FISHER REDUCES MONCRIEF RECORD. Runs Six and a Half Furlongs in 1:19 in Winning Live Oak Handicap at Jacksonville, Jacksonville, Fla., February IS. A good card, coupled witli a warm, bright afternoon, attracted a large crowd to Moncrief Park today. The Live Oak Handicap, the feature event, was overshadowed In a measure by the third race, an allowance affair, which brought together some of the best mllcrs on the grounds. The winner of this race turned up in that good three-year-old, The Nigger, which beat the speedy T. M. Green a length, witli the favorite, Donald Macdonald, third. Joe McCahey had the mount on The Nigger and this skillful young jockey also piloted the two-year-old Ktliciency to a runaway victory in the opening dnsh and Guy Fisher, winner of the stake feature. Gny Fisher shouldered 115 pounds, made all of bis own -pace and clipped thrce-iifths of a second from the track record for the distance. The start in this race was ragged, the field leaving the post in Indian tile. Guy Fisher outbroke the others and Hanbridge also got off running. The latter was on his bad behavior at the post and starter Dade got down from his stand and in using the whip on him was given a lively tussle. After the race Mr. Dade announced that he would take advantage of a rule of the Southern Jockey Club, which limits delays at the barrier on acount of bad actors to five minutes. In future Hanbridge will be given three minutes and if Dade or his assistants are unable to get a good break with him the horses will be sent away irrespective of Hanbridge. Two of todays winners changed hand after their races. Lady Inna was advanced from ,100 to ,400 by Dave Woodford, who secured her at that figure for the Beverwyclc Stable. "W. O. Scully lost Spes Nostra to Guy Gray for ,C0O, representing a raise of 00. Frank Nolan, owner of the Beverwyck Stable, returned this morning and will remain for a few days to participate in the racing at Moncrief. Mr. Nolan will leave for Southern Florida some day next week. M. Kittlemau, after spending a couple of mouths touring the continent, was among the visitors at Moncrief this afternoon. Jockey McTaggart was susicnded for a week by the judges for cutting across in front with Radium Star in the last race. A. M. Bradshaw arrived from California with Donovan. Applications have been received from Logan Denny and Moore Johnson for stable room. The latter is due to. arrive from Oakland next week witli two horses. The liooks have been losing heavily during the past week or ten -days. Several of the layers have quit and others have announced their intention of laying off. The horses have been running closely to form and bettors have been in clover. The horses of Chinn and Frey, including the good two-vear-olds. Rose of Jeddah and Joe Knight, will be sold in the Moncrief paddock March 4 by George Bain. There will be another mule race at Moncrief Park on the next ladies day. about March 15. It took the winning mule 2:1.1 to run a mile in the race decided on the last ladies day at Moncrief. Jockey Butwell will leave Jacksonville within the next fortnight to arrange for his departure from New York to fill his summers engagement in Russia. Beceut work-outs at Moncrief.
