RACING GOSSIP FROM THE COAST. San Francisco, Cal.. February 23. At a paddock sale at Oakland track racers that had merited the applause of the crowds that patronized California racing sold for the proverbial song. Horses like Early Tide. J. C. Clem and Iiueolie, once great tavorites with local race-goers, sold for 100 a piece, and many other well-known racers were bid in by buyers of various professions. Early Tide, a stake winner, was the first horse offered for sacrifice. Rids started at 50, and Zick Abrams was the buyer for 100. Convent Hell came next and went to G. M. Gray for 150. She will be shipped to British Columbia to enter a breeding establishment. Steel went for S5. J. C. Clem 100, Aks-Ar-Ben 100, and about fifteen selling platers averaged less than 100 a piece. There were several private sales as well. The good sprinter. Likely Dieudonne. went for 1.000 to W. Duiker. The Raisin City Stable intends to go ,out of business and was anxious to dispose of the Dieudonne gelding. Ed Kaufman purchased Rov Junior for 700, C. P. Lamar bought Bonnie Bard for 500, and Joe Tigue took Elgin from Frank Doss. J. L. Boss will ship Phil Mohr. Academist, Daiieon and a two-year-old to Jacksonville March 1. Moore Johnson and Logan Denny left with their strings for the Florida track Tuesday. .T. Callahan, a promising lightweight, lias signed a contract to ride for C. J. Qninn in the east this summer. Qninn will ship Sea Cliff. Feather Duster, Pickaninny, Pete and Sixty to Pimlico March 15. C. P. Lamar, with Thistle Belle, Arlonette and five others, will start for Louisville about the middle of April. He Intends to weed out his string, and lias already disposed of Bonnie Bard and Gertie.
