RULING IS NOT APPROVED MONCRIEF JUDGES SUSPEND OWNER JAMES FITZSIMMONS AND JOCKEY MCAHEY. Judicial Action Following: Poor Showing: of Via Oc-tavia Arouses General Condemnation at Jacksonville Track Only One Favorite Scores. Jacksonville. Fla., February 23. It. is seldom that .-in ollh-ial ruling meets with general coiidemnation. This happened today, however, when the judges issued a ruling which brought suspension to owner .lames Fitzsimmons and jockey Joe McCahey as a result of Via Oetavias failure to finish better than fourth in the fourth race. Via Octavia was a well; supported favorite, having been backed from S to 5 to .even money. There was no support for any of the others and jockey Wilson, on Star Charter, was called to the stand by the judges while on his way to tlx; post and cautioned. Jockey McCahey has been one of the popular riders here and heads the list of winning jockeys. The public has great conlidence in the lad. while Mr. Fitzsimmons is also held in high esteem. The ruling as issued by the judges was to the effect that both rider and owner were suspended ponding investigation of the race, which found White Wool first at the finish in a drive with Antcnor. The latter dashed to the front when the start came and led until well into the homestretch, where White Wool caught and passed him to .win going away by half a length. The ,Moat was the only successful choice. The two-year-old race resulted in a driving finish between Silas Grump and Eland, in which the former got up in the closing stride to win by a nose. Dave Nicol had the- mount on Silas Grump and he put up a rousing finish on the colt. Eland, which finished second,, had been running at Tampa under the name of Klan. Jockey Gould was suspended for six days by the starter for disobedience while at the post in the lirst race. Jockey Dell was taken sick this morning .and, was forced to cancel his engagements this afternoon. :. 11. Snapper Garrison purchased of Guy, Gray this morning the three-year-old lillly. Miss Nett. The latter showed good form on the eastern tracks last season. W. Carter bought Lord Nelson of J. I;. Schneittcr and will ship him back to Tampa. Jockey Butwell was weak after the finish of the White Wool race and was unable to ride Andy Ginter in the fifth, so A. Walsh was substituted. While being exercised this morning Aunt Kate suffered an injury and will be thrown out of training for a boh t a mouth. .She was excused front the third race by the judges.
