RECORD HOLDERS IN ACTION AT JUAREZ. El Paso, Tex., February 27. Ideal racing conditions, an. attractive program and the appearance of two American record holders drcy one of the largest crowds of the meeting to Terrazas Park yesterday. The Mexican Selling Stakes; for two-year-olds, was congested by a well-balanced field. Calisse, B. A. Trammels fleet filly and holder of the American record for three and a half furlongs, ruled favorite throughout the betting, despite weight concessions. She ran a creditable race, but succumbed to the determined challenge of Charley Brown, a good-looking soil of Cesarion. "The third race was notable in that Terns Trick, bolder of the American record for five-eighths, was making his local debut. He fully sustained the reputation which preceded him here by showing dazzling speed, none of his opposition being able to get near him after the first eighth had been run. An interesting sidelight to the afternoons sport was provided liy the Staff "officers of General Navarro in a Mexican fox chase, which occurred after the running of the sixth race. The entertainment piyiyed exciting and was hligely appreciated by the large ertiwd present, the winner being the recipient of vo4feroiis applause on his return to the judges with, the. trophy of the chase. J. H. McDonald became the owner of Little Friar today by. purchase from the Lawndale Stable. The success of but one favorite made the day a rather disastrous one for the public, but as most of tlie "Winners were well backed at lucrative odds the failure of tlie public choices was not as profitable as itsual for the ring. Tlie attendance for an off day was surprisingly good today, the card being an ordinary one, with a handicap at seven-eighths as the most attractive feature. Angelus, from tlie stable of II. R. Brandt and a frequent winner at the meeting, was considered to have the best chance and was Installed favorite, but the handicap of a set of blinkers was apparently too much for him. He had noue of his-accustomed speed and finished in the ruck. The success of but one favorite gave the layers one of the most profitable days accorded them recently. Emma G., winner of the sixth race, on account of old scores at Oakland, was bid up 03 over her entered price by William Walker, and was retained by Owner F. W. Doss.
