The oldest member of the establishment is the four-year-old Boola Boola, son of Ben . Boola Boola has wintered well and comes to hand this spring a much improved horse in general appearance. The only three-year-old in the string is Kootenay, a maiden gelding by Ben Stroine My Beauty, aii imported daughter of the good English race horso and sire. Ladas. The fifteen two-year-olds in the stable were all broken and tried out here last fall by trainer Keene. before he went to San Francisco with the string of semi-castolfs that he raced with indifferent success during the abbreviated meeting at Oakland, and they have been named as follows: Batwa. br. e, by Mazagan Screech dam of Ada O. The live-year-old horse Miami is probably the only member of the Camden string in California that will be brought back to Kentucky. Hamilton Kcene. who is now in charge of these horses, lias been instructed to sell thein or pick out a few of them to race on the inter-mountain circuit. Among the two-year-olds in California are Ma Mie, Lo Mio, Madrecita, Pourquoi, Nada Mas. Mandadero and Penang. Among the two-year-olds in the- stable of W. L. Shirley O. was foaled the property of Mr. Petty, he having purchased Noogs at the MeGrathiana Stud dispersal in October. 190S, and she is the first i-accr that he has ever had in training. Shirley O. worked encouragingly for trainer Lewis after she was broken last fall and if she makes good Mr. Petty says he may become interested to a greater extent as an owner. He is fond of the sport of racing rfrom the spectacular side and is anxious to feel the thrill which comes to the owner of a winner. Including the broodmares, two-vear-old and three-year-old fillies and yearlings, there are now approximately fifty thoroughbreds at the Dixiana Stud, but no stallion. When he made his sale ot yearlings r.nd mares in the Argentine Republic last autumn, Maj. Thomas .1. Carson took along also his three English-bred stallions, Scintillant. Onnicant and Griffon, and this leaves him without a sire for the establishment. ITe thought of buying Kismet, which was recently sold by Earl Linnell of Los Angeles to Irving II. Wheatcroft. and made a visit to Keene-land Farm to see the son of Melton, but he decided that he would prefer a younger horse. Kismet now being twenty years old. As yet lie has not been aide to locate a stallion that suits him in every particular for purchase and has about concluded to send the mares to the courts of a number of the sires standing in tills vicinity. There are two foals at John S. Barbces Glen Helen Stud, a brown colt by .Tack Point Raiment dam of Marjorie A., by Henry of Navarre, belonging lo A. L.
