FLYING WOLF BEATS JIM BASEY. El Paso, Tex., .March 4. There were fully ?t,t0d lovers of racing at Juarez trad: today and the success of four public favorites made the day a profitable one for them. The stellar attraction was a handicap at three-quarters in which the good California three-year-old, Jim Basey, met Flying Wclf and other good local three-year-olds. The race proved easy for Flying Wolf, lie speedily raced info a good lead and held it throughout. Jim Basey met with some early interference, causing him to lose considerable ground, but ran a creditable race. He came again after the interference in resolute fashion, but could not get near the Hying leader. A- future meeting between these two stars will be. awaited with interest, as the California contingent now here consider their favorite to he better than he has shown in racing here. Barney Oldfleld, of automobile fame, was a visitor today for the first time, en route to his home in Los Angeles,- and under the tutelage of his old friend, Barney Schreiber, profited to quite some extent by the victory of Vreeland from the Schrclber barn, in the lifth race. Candleberry, winner of the last race, developed one of the most extensive plunges of the meeting, the Ilirsah candidate being backed heavily here as well as throughout the country. William AValker has arranged to ship his stable of a carload of horses, about a dozen head, to Baltimore about March 14. and rest there until the spring meeting at Plmlico begins. He has about decided not to race .Stanley Fay again at Juarez. Next winter Mr. Walker will come back here.
