ILMA ONLY WINNING FAVORITE. McDowell Filly Only First Choice to Score at Mon-crief Aldrian Beats Aylmer, Jacksonville, I-Ta., March 7. Thomas C. McDowells limn saved the followers of favorites from a complete Waterloo at Moncrief Park this afternoon when she beat a band of three-year-olds in the second race. There was an absence of class to the fields, if one excepts the fourth race, which was the feature of the program. This was a handicap at one mile p.nd a sixteenth and it furnished tiic only close finish of the. afternoon, the Boverwyek Stables Aldrian getting up in the final strides to lieat the well-backed Aylmer .a- head. There were five starters in this race and it was the best betting event of the six. All but Descomnets were well supported. Aylmer and Governor Gray going to the post equal choices at 13 to 5. In the early stages Princelike showed the -way. but was joined by Descomnets on the baekstreteli and the "latter then took the lead. In the stretch Aylmer took command and appeared to be winning, but in the final sixteenth the Schorr racer began to tire and Aldrian. finishing straight aud true, got tin in the final strides to beat him by a small margin. Auto Maid, purchased out of Saturdays sale by Sam Louis and running for the first time in her new owners colors, won the two-year-old race. She made all of her own pace and beat the favorite, Slim Princess, half a length. The judges have lifted the suspension against W. V. Conrari and the latter will be permitted to start his horses providing he secures a trainer satisfactory to the officials. Jockey Gullott has also been restored to good standing, but will not be permitted to accept any more mounts here. Eugene Lutz arrived from Tampa this morning with his Derby colt. Messenger Hoy.. Other arrivals from Tampa were C. Reed and J. Stephenson. Jockey McTaggart, who was suspended far a week by the officials for rough riding, will be permitted to ride for his employer, who has Bertls in the Tropical Selling Stakes tomorrow. . ...... Jockey Phil Goldstein will leave for his homo in Chicago Thursday to rest until the opening of the meeting at Norfolk. Among the arrivals today were Eddie P.urko and Leo Mayer. A. Simons purchased Kempton Park of J. 0. Holder arid will use him as a work" companion for Lahore.
