EQUALS A JUAREZ RECORD QUARTERMASTER RUNS 5 1-2 FURLONGS IN 1:05 1-5 AT MEXICAN COURSE. Jacquclina. Has an Easy Time Winning the Carmen -Selling Stakes From Taboo and Butter Ball A Day of Well Backed Winners. 121 Paso, Tex., March 28. Ladies Jay and a fairly good program of which tho Carmen Selling Slakes was the feature, drew a goodly number of race-goers io the Juarez track this afternoon. Owing to the extensive number of departures for the Kentucky tracks,, the field hi the stake was ridiculously small, but three facing the barrier. The race was conceded to W. T. Andersons mare Jacquclina aud she ruled a prohibitive favorite in the betting, few caring to take a chance on anything to defeat her. It Was virtually no contest for the favorite after the first quarter bad bceii run, as she went to the front at that point and thereafter only had to canter. Form was fairly well observed, with the success of three of tho choices. Toller, The Pippin aud L. M. Eckert were heavily backed as well as the winning favorites. George Odom put one over in The Pippin, backing her heavily here as well as in the east. Owing to the sudden illness of Col. W. E. Applegate with ptomaine poisoning, his book was withdrawn from the ring today. Karl Liuncll will take the stable of E. Gay lord to Piiiilieo after tho close of tho meeting here, the star of the string, the good colt,. Anion, being entered liberally in eastern stakes. Quartermaster equaled the track record of 1:05 for Jive and one-half .furlongs this afternoon in the third race. He came from the rear in game fashion and won witli the greatest of ease. Had he been fully extended It is probable that the track record would have been lowered, as his win was most impressively achieved.
