JAMESTOWN PREPARATIONS PROCEEDING. Norfolk. Va., March "0. General Manager Bob Levy reiterated today his previous statements that the Jamestown Jockey Club, of which he is the head. will run the Norfolk spring meeting as advertised. The best evidence nt his sincerity is furnished by the circumstance that preparations for the opening on April 5 have not stopped. Mr. Levy said that the Jamestown Jockey Club had never broken the laws of Virginia and that it did not -ontomplate doing so this spring. r.etweon 5Kl and GOO horses, including many of 1he best in the land, are already gathored at the pretty Norfolk track, and Mr. Levy and his associates are determined to lind profitable employment for them all. The program for the first seven days of the meeting is already out and it shows a considerable advance in purse values over last season. The card for the last eleven days will be as liberal as the one already arranged, and if conditions warrant the club will be even more liberal. There will be races for worthy local charities this spring and no distinction will be made between the several sects which maintain hospitals in the city. It is understood that a court decision recently given here regarding a handlook operator will he cited as a reason why betting can go on at the Jamestown track. This decision Jutlined that when no record of a bet was made and no written receipt for a wager was given to a bettor the so-called laver of -odds did not become a lookinaker or poolseller. Incidentally a prominent handbook man was discharged from custody because lie was charged with only accepting oral and cash wagers. Recent work-outs: Ariosto Quarter in 27.
