FAVORITES TAKE PURSES PUBLIC CHOICES ALL BUT SWEEP CARD AT JAMESTOWN TRACK., , Capsize Only Outsider to Score and Makes-Excellent Showing for Initial Appearance of Season-Racing Attended by One Run-up. Norfolk, Va., April C. Favorites all hut swept the card at the Jamestown Jockey Clubs course this afternoon. Capsize, winner of the third race, was the only outsider to finish in front. The attendance was again good and those present appeared to feel more at ease than on the opening day. Five more layers strolled about the lawns and under the stand and there was a general air of activity on all sides. Form was well observed during the afternoon, but the fact that live of the public- choices won. did not mean that any great amount was lost by the layers for the reason that percentages ran high. When matters loosen up, as they promise to from now on, there will be keener competition among the gentlemen displaying odds on their programs and more liberal quotations. The racing" was good today, although a majority of the winners had plenty to spare at the finish. Maxentius scored another victory for his new owner. Capt. P. M. Walker, when he beat an ordinary lot 3f youngsters in the opening dash. Hill Top helped to fatten Roxey Angarolas bank roll when she won the second race. Capsizos victory over a fair lot of sprinters in the feature race of the program was the only upset of the afternoon. It was the colts first appearance for the season and he showed splendid courage in coming from behind to beat the speedy Mexoana and Watervale a couple of lengths. The lirst runup of the meeting came after This .Monk won the closing dash, in which he was, entered at 00. Sam Louis, owner of Golcouda, which finished second, boosted the winner i0O, but the horse was protected with the usual advance. Word comes from Jacksonville that Francis J. Pons has disposed of the stock he held "in the Marlboro track and has--WTthdrciwn from airc6nnection with that association. Mr. Pons will devote his attention in the future toward establishing a track at Charlestown. where a modern course will he built during the coming summer. The Beverwyck Stable, after being delayed en, route from Jacksonville, reached Norfolk this afternoon. J. S. Ownbey also arrived with his string. Frank Frisbie disposed of the unreliable Effendi to William Woodward before leaving Jacksonville. Jockey Reid arrived from Juarez and will ride for M. C. Pritchard here and at Baltimore. Among the newcomers seen at the course were A. W. Bryan, of Toronto, and "Kid" Weller, W. Beverley, Tom Woodford and Matt Corbett. James Fitzsimmons acted as one of the stewards today.
