NOTABLE RACERS REACH CHURCHILL DOWNS. Special Trains With Stars of Winter Meetings Come-Simultaneously From Juarez and Florida. Louisville, Ky., April 0. What is conceded to be the greatest shipment of horses to arrive in one day at Louisville reached Churchill Downs today. Twelve of the cars came from the Jockey Club Juarez track in Mexico, and the other ten carloads came from Moncrief Park, Jacksonville. This shipment embraces practically all of the stars that have been racing at the winter meetings in Mexico and Florida. They consist of the two leading Derby candidates. Round the World and Governor Gray. Other horses in the shipment embrace the remarkable mare. Meadow, the speedy Follie Levy, the Texas-bred Derby candidate Sterlin, the great Jack Atkin, Barney Sehreibers Derby candidate. Captain Carmody, the "bush" sprinter, John Griffin II.. and such Other useful racers as Agility. Sebago, Uncle Ben, Butter Ball, Bob Farley, Enfield, Bettie Sue, Taboo, War Jig, Polls, Charley Brown. Chapultepec, Jupiter Joe, Jeanne dArc. Lady Rankin, Lady Hughes, Mockler and others of good class. In fact, witli but two exceptions, practically all the horses in this shipment are winners of creditable races. Jockey M. McGee, who stood third on the list of winning jockeys at Juarez, and who will have the mount on Round the World in the Kentucky Derhy is here. T. Rice and J. Glass are in Chicago for a brief rest preparatory to beginning riding on the Kentucky circuit. There will be at Churchill Downs this spring many capable riders, in fact, the best lot in years. Horsemen returning from Juarez say they understand that the negro who held up and fatally shot Joseph Burttschell is in the custody of the Mexican authorities. Mr. Burttschell had ,000 in currency on his person when he was attacked, hut this bis assailant did not secure for the reason that he was frightened away quickly. G. M. Odom. Will Shelley and jockey M. McGee arrived here ahead of the Juarez special. Max Hirsch continued ou to New York, but his horses will be raced hero. The horses of L. P. Doerhoefer. which came from Jacksonville, will bo trained by Shelby West. James Griffin: is here with nine youngsters owned by J. S. McCullougb. Griffin has retired to the stud that formerly useful racer. Czar.
