CANADIAN TURFS MOST EAGERLY SOUGHT PRIZE ,fe Canadians are already looking forward with keen interest to the fifty-second running of the Kings Plate on the opening day of the Ontario Jockey Clubs spring meeting at Woodbine. .May 20. This is the oldest fixture ot the American turf that has been run continuously and may properly be regarded as the foremost of all Canadian turf events in sporting importance. The winning of the kings guineas s. deemed a high honor and a distinction well worth striving for by all Canadian turfmen. Its net value to the winner in recent years has been somewhat in excess of ,000 and will continue to be this year, as the conditions remain unchanged. There are exactly twenty eligibles for the coming renewal of the race and their names and other particulars, together with the conditions governing this historic event, are apieuded: The Kings Plate 50 guineas the gift of his Majesty King George, with ,000 added bv the Ontario Jockey Club: the lirst horse to receive the guineas, stakes and ,750; the second horse 00. and the third 00: the breeder of the winner to receive 50; a sweepstakes of . payable at time of entry, additional, unless declared out by May 1. and 5 additional for starters: for three-year-olds and upward, owned, foaled, raised and trained in the Province of Ontario, that have never won a race either on the flat or across country, have never left Canada, and have never been for a period of more than one month out of this province: death of nominator does not render entry void: one mile and a quarter; a piece of plate will be presented by the club to the winner; declarations Monday, May 1; to be run on Saturday, May 20. 4 Owner, Color and Sex. Jane Shore and Wliaup, which were second, third and fourth in last years Kings Plate, the only horses from that race that are named to go again this year. This list is numerically two stronger than a year ago, or twontv as against eighteen. Thirteen owners are represented. Mr. Davies has two nominations, Mr. Seagram three and the Valley Farm Stable live. More than half of the entries are from Toronto, but that does not necessarily suggest a Torouto winner. No Toronto owner, except Mr. Woods, has won the Plate in more than twenty years. .f. 4,
