ROUND THE WORLD IS SOLD W. G. YANKE ACQUIRES COLONEL APPLE-GATES INTEREST IN CRACK FILLY. Kentucky Derby Favorite Works an Impressive Mile in 1:42 at Lexington Track Bonnio Kelso Also Works a Fast Mile. Lexington. Ky., April 27. Round the World, tho Kentucky Derby favorite, worked an exceedingly impressive mile at the Kentucky- Association coursu this morning. Her time was: Quarter, 23; half, 47; live-eighths, l:0OH: three-quarters, 1:14: mile, 1:42. When she was coming into the stretch W. G. Yanke signalled tho boy to take a strong hold of her, and she was barely more than cantering at the finish. , Slie runs best on a firm, smooth track and found the going here today just to her liking. Mr. Yanke announced after the trial that he would start her in tho Phoenix Hotel Handicap Saturday, but he could not say positively who will ride her. He further announced that he had purchased Col. W. E. Ap5lc-gates interest in Round the World and other horses, and that the following, In addition to the Derby favorite, will race iu his name here: Lackrosc, Leo-IKld. Flying Feet, Big Claim, Swish, Asbury, Incision. Frog, Artesian and Aragoncse. Round the World and Aragoncse are being trained by Mr. Yanke and the others are being handled by Charles T. Patterson. Mr. Yanke has also purchased from Joseph Schreiber the contract on the lightweight jockey, W. Gargan. The fastest move of the morning at a mile was by Richard F. Carmans Bonnie Kelso, which has the post of honor for the Phoenix Hotel Handicap and the Camden Handicap. He ran the first quarter iu 23 J, the half in 40J, three-quarters in 1:15 and the mile in 1:412. His stable companion. Starbottle, likewise eligible to the two handicaps, worked a mile in 1:423, handily. Magazine, from the same stable, galloped three-quarters iu 1:173. Another rattling good move was that of Countless, the Phoenix Hotel Handicap candidate from the stable or J. W. May. He went the first quarter in 23J. the half in 48. three-quarters in 1:14; and the mile, pulling up. in 1:43. Cherryola galloped a mile in 1:45. Joe Morris, Boola Boola, Priucelike, Cousole. Any Port, other eligibles to the Phoenix Hotel Handicap, merely cantered. Kings Daughter -worked three-quarters in 1:152, handily. Itose Me-Gce and Arcite went three-quarters in 1:142. The best move bv any two-year-old was that of Worth from the stable of Gallalier Bros. His fractional time was 113, 23, 35. 4S. 1:02, pulling up. Three carloads of horses arrived from Louisville this morning. Henry McDauiel brought Polls, R. L. Thomas Phoenix Hotel Handicap candidate, and will start him in the opening day feature. Others in his string are Lowceu, King Broomstick. Charley Brown, Twenty-One, Lady Hughes and Mexico. Pete Coyne came iu with six of George J. Longs string, Including Exemplar, Enyoc, Foxcraft, Free Lance, Rudolf o and Fanchette. . W. Cahill brought Barney Schreibers Kentucky Derby candidate, Captain Carmody, Sewell, Argonaut and Raleigh, the latter belonging to Frank Doss. French Brooks arrived with eight of the Woodford Clay string, including Single File, Ocean, Blue, Mirror, Inland, Bucknorn, Lady McGce, Cheer Up and the Sir Dixon Breakwater filly, George Odom brought Follie Levy, Ben Lasca, The Pippin and Upright. Royal Captive and Al Muller, belongiik to J. It. Wainwright, and War Jig. Taboo and Baccarra, the projierty of Max Ilirch, came iu the same ear. T. Turuniire came with Cash ou Delivery. L, F. Roussey brought Solus and S. J. Kelley arrived with Roberta. Among the men. of the turf who have arrived foe the meeting are: Col. W. E. Applegate, Fred llel-ter. Woodford Clay. F. M. Hopper. Jack Weaver, William Woodard. John S. Morris, C. C. Van Meter and Albert Luzader. Lou Marion announced this afternoon that he had sold his contract on jockey Carl Ganz to E. It. Bradley. Jockey George Mountain began reducing this morning. He says he will make 107 pounds here. Jockey Eddie Martin, under contract to Jack Weaver, arrived tonight. Eugene Elrod. who will have charge of the betting ring, will arrive tomorrow1. He has been laid up at Louisville with inflammatory rheumatism. Tho pari-mutuel machinus, tickets and other ring equipment, arrived today. J". E. Widener, Captain Cassatt aud Wade MeLcm-ore have written to Secretary Bhlwell of the Kentucky State Racing Commission for entry blanks to the Endurance Stakes, four miles. A half-brother to Donau, last years Kentucky Derby winner, was foaled at the farm of Thomas Piatt this morning. - It is a bay colt by Cesariou Al Lone. A light shower fell this afternoon. It was needed to settle the dust 011 the track. If there is no more rain the going will bo lightning fast for Saturday.
