, NOTES OF THE TURF. There were sixteen race meetings in England on Easter Monday, seven of them extendiug to the next day. Harry "Red" Simpson, the steeplechase jockey, has arrived at Baltimore from Toronto. He will ride the horses of .1. W. Garth during the Pimlico meeting and will then return to Canada for Woodbine racing. It is understood that Gov. Mann of Virginia will urge the legislature of that state, when it meets next January, to strengthen the anti-betting law which was practically nullified by court decisions arising out of the recent racing at Jamestown. Preparations are under way by the Jamestown Jockey Club for a fall meeting.
