ALL IN READINESS AT PIMLICO. Famous Old Track, Remodelled, Spic and Span for Saturdays Opening Prospects Roseate. Baltimore, Mil., April 27. Pimlico, remodelled and In a new dress of paint, looks spic and span for the opening of the spring season of racing here on Saturday. Many" improvements have boon made since last fall, most important of which has been the widening of the backstretcli and the addition of the large and commodious clubhouse and grounds formerly occupied by the Country Club. These grounds are now a part of the Maryland Jockey Clubs plant and Marylands most exclusive set will gather here duringthc meeting to witness the battles, of the thoroughbreds. cver before were the prospects so brigkt for a successful meeting. Gathered here are sou of the best horses in the country and with them have come a large following of racing enthusiasts. Many of the eqiilne battles fought over this famous old racing ground in the past have gone down in turf history as among the greatest contests ever witnessed in this country, and while the crowds this spring may not be as large as in the old days, still they promise to be record-breaking so far as recent years are concerned. August Belmonts big string is already here, besides those of every other prominent eastern turfman. The Norfolk delegation arrived In the morning, headed by the Beverwyck Stable, whose string includes Sir John Johnson-. Tho horses of P. S. P. Randolph, William Walker, M. C. Prichard, .T. W- Garth and E. Moyne also arrived. Stable room is now at a premium and late comers will be forced to seek accommodations on the outside. The present meeting will probably be the last during which bookmaking will prevail. Three pari-mutuel machines have already been installed, one for straight, one for place and one for show betting. Next fall about twenty-five mutuel machines will be in operation, which means tho passing of the bookmaker so far as Pimlico is concerned. Before leaving Norfolk William Walker tightened up his useful racer, Stanley Fay. On Wednesday Stanley Fay worked a mile m 1:434 and his owner Is confident that he has regained the form lie ills--played a couple of seasons back, when he was rated as one of the best horses raeing in California. The track was crowded today with horses getting their final preparation for Saturdays opening. S. C Ilihlreth had his horses out yesterday find they were the center of attraction. The older division, beaded by Fit 7. Herbert, cantered slowly around the course .and were given just enough exercise to get tho kinks out of their legs. It was the general opinion that the Ilildrcth horses were in great condition and most of them close to a race. The Jlildreth two-year-olds were out in another division in charge of W. II. Synder. Tom Hcaley" also had R. T. Wilsons string out, but, like Mr. Ilihlreth. only for limehring up exercise. The Wilson string is made up of thirteen horses, five of which are three-year-olds and eight two-year-olds. Of the juvenile division seven are colts and one is a filly. Tin: names of the older horses are Cuttyhunk, Cherish, Amalli, Altamaha and Nightfall. The names and breeding of the youngsters follow: New River, b. c, bv Yankee Lucy Glitters. AVar Path, ch,. c, by Planudes Lady Schorr. Aldcharuu. b. g. by Plaundos Passan. Zagobla, b. c, by Plaudit Countess Wanda. Agamcnticns, b. c, bv Yankee Anodyne. Ochre Court, br. e, by Ogden By Ways. Cliocorua, b. c, by Yankee Calea.- Reine Margot, eh. f, by Mexican Lady Navarre. The Presgrave, Turney, "Garth and AValden strings did useful work. Chilton Squaw, from the Wahlen stable, showed lots of speed and will be ready to race from the start. Recent work-outs wore as follows: Beau Chilton Half mile in 51 J. Cave Adsum Mile in 1:40. Chilton Squaw Five-eighths in 1:04. Doodle Dandy Half mile In 53. Double Five Three-eighths in OS.. Duke of tho District Three-quarters in 1:17. Edgely Three-quarters in 1:20.
