EAST RUNNING AT PIMLICO EVERETT EQUALS TRACK RECORD FOR MILE IN MAKING 1911 DEBUT. Joe Madden, After Long Absence from the Races, Wins a Purse for S. C. Hildreth Prominent Stables Planning to Ship to Kentucky. Baltimore. Mil., May 5. The Quincy Stables good 1 four-year-old, Everett, showed a good performance in the Renuert Handicap at Pimlico this afternoon when he beat a shifty lot and equalled the track record of 1:30 for the mile. The Rennert was the feature race of the card and among those that went to the post was Shannon, which finished close to Watervale in his record performance here on Monday last. Everett was maklug his first appcaraucu in public since his victory in the Bowie Stakes here last fall. S. C. Hildretli added another to the purses Ids horses have won here when Joe Madden won tiiu fifth race in easy fas.hion. Joe Madden had not started since last yefcrs Suburban, in which ho finished fourth to Olambala. There was some doubt as to the Hildretli horse being right lit and Stanley Fay was given preference over him in the betting, but proved a rank disappointment, finishing fourth in a field of six. Todays victory was the sixth that the Hildretli-horses have scored here. Favorite followers received a setback today. They were never able to get right during the afternoon and the results showed seven straight favorites bowled over. The first two winners, Cu Bon and Astrologer, were rank outsiders, CO to 1 being quoted against each in the closing betting. Several distinguished turfmen were among the visitors at the course this afternoon. August Belmont, who came over from Washington to attend the peace conference now in sesion in Baltimore, took a trip out to Pimlico and witnessed the running of some of the races. Alfred Hermann Norris Is here to witness the running of the Clabaiigh Memorial, which will be the feature race of tomorrows program, and II. S. Page and A. C. Schwartz were interested in the running of the Arlington Steeplechase for hunters.. Joseph E. Widcner was also present for the first time tills spring. Earl Linnell, who has jockey Guy Garner under his wing, has announced his intention of going from hero to Louisville. E. W. Heffner has also arranged to ship Guy Fisher and Corinth to Churchill Downs, hi all about seven carloads will leave hero for the Kentucky track. It is said that Loosburg Boy may be added to the Clabaugh Memorial tomorrow. The colt worked, well at Bonning and is reported to be tit. W. IT. Karrick withdrew Wyandot from the second race this afternoon. The colt bucked yesterday morning and will not go to the post again until he races at Churchill Downs. News reached here today of the death of Hcnrv Thompson, better known probably as "Bute." Ho had been employed on the metropolitan tracks in one capacity or another for the past fifty years. Ho first became connected with race horses back in 1S!1 and at that time was employed by Wyndham Walder, and later by John Hunter. In more recent years he worked about the office of the secretary of the Westchester Racing Association for the late H. G. Crickmore. "Bute" was seventy-eight years of age at the time of his death, which was due to tuberculosis. Jockey Eddie Dugan was suspended for two davs by the starter for trying to beat the gate with Overman in the second race. Steeplechase jockey Phillips was given four days by the same official. The further entry of Oakhurst was ordered refused by the stewards for the reason that he bled in his race today. Recent work-outs at Pimlico. Weather clear; track fast: Altarec Five-eighths in 1:03. Has not been pressed to. show much speed. Fort Worth Five-eighths in 1:03. Works along nicely at all times. Gold Cap Half mile in 40. Fast and is ready to race to good form.
