TO SUPPRESS BETTING IN HOLLAND. A dispatch loin The Hague last Wednesday said that the lirst chamber of the Staffs General had that day adopted without revision the bill prohibiting "immorality." Including mutuel betting ami book making at the race tracks. Iliis is a measure that has been pending for some time past and is almost certainly destined to become a law presently. Racing is of little consei|uence in Holland, but the impending law did imt have its origin in abuses n, Dutch racing. A great many Knglish bookmakers bare for some time been carrying on what would be called hand booking in this country at Flushing and oiler Dutch coast purls near England, the bulk of their bu-ines- being done with person- in the latter country by telegraph. Their methods have become extremely obnoxious to the authorities of Holland and the proposed law is designed to put them out of business. This it will do and. by way of making a clean sweep, will also do away with betting on the trai ks.
