LATONIA RACING PROSPERS PATRONAGE CONTINUES TO INCREASE IN HIGHLY GRATIFYING MANNER. Princess Callaway Wins Race in Which Kings Daughter, Well Backed, Develops Sulking Tendencies — Waldo Again Disappoints. Cincinnati. .. Juno Ml-Another largo crowd was pwml at the l.atonia Hack Ibis afternoon and witnessed MM fairly interesting racing. The constant improvement in pa I mean is a source of great satisfaction and. if it continues at the present rate, the attendance will not fall far short of the record made this spring at Louisville. Todays speculation was ol heavy proportion, its total exceeding that of any ordinary day since the introduction of niutuel betting at this track. Kvenly balanced fields, with the better grade of horses as starters, probably accounts for this satisfactory state of affairs. Kinds Daughter, always a favorite in this locality, disappointed her numerous hackers in the feature I at r and incidentally gave some appearance of sulking when she failed to finish better than third after having trailed far out of contention daring the hist three quarters. She was thought liest at the weights and had the snpport of all the big operators. She got away from the post forwardly. hut at once began lagging and. despite jockey Koernors urging, she continued to drop back until after the half mile ground was reached. Then she moved up. but could not overhaul either Princess Callaway or Kormak. Waldo tired badly after going three-quarters and is far from what he was rated to be as a three year-old before his breakdown in his tinal trial for the Kentucky Derby. He pulled up soundly after todays running and may show improvement in future starts. Clay Bros uncovered a prospective good one in the oneajpr in Lady McGee. but she ran greenly and was beaten by Morodo. She showed much speed and probably will reverse the running with the winner at their next meeting. The starters in this race were an unruly lot and it accounted for Henrietta W. getting left at the |M st and Limousine bolting on the first turn. Colonel Cook furnished excitement in the second race by getting the l etter of his rider, MeCahey. while going to the post, and he circled the course several times gefore he could be conn-oiled. He was being led to the post when starter Cassidy dispatched the field and sent the others on their journey. The winner turned up in Henderson vV Uogans Alamitos. which led throughout. Emily Lee. under Ijoftus handling, showed vastly improved form in the third and boat the favorite. Marsand, in a romp. Golden Agnes, well backed, bolted on the stretch turn and finished last. The change in riders from McTaggart to Taplin made a vast difference in the inconsistent Stone Streets running, and he made a show of the Hague and High Range in the fifth race. J. B. Rosposs took another purse when his consistent Forehead finished first in the final lace, for which John Keardon was an intended good thing and made a disappointing showing. lima and Intrinsic dividing the minor [tortious of the purse. Jockeys Taplin and Loftus carried off the riding honors witli a pair of victories each. James Evorman returned today from Hamilton and reports that Governor Cray and New Idea will remain in Canada until after the running of the Canadian Derby at Kort Erie. Capt. J. T. Williams will supervise their training. Colston came out of his last race in bad condition and probably will not lie started again until fall. Ty ii Johnson and other owners here will defer shipping to Kort Krie until definite information of the outcome of the Gittins bill now before the New York Senate. Col. Matt J. Winn and Charles K. Grainger were among todays visitors. Colonel Winn has been sojourning at French Lick Springs since the close of the Churchill Downs meeting and is again in good health. I. Leyde returned today from Lexington where he purchased a dozen llinroughbreds that he will ship to Mexico. lie also secured Meadowgrass to day to go with the consignment. Most of the horses, according to Mr. Leyde, are intended for cavalry purpose* in the Mexican army. The recent revolution, he said, depleted the supply of horses. Presiding Judge Charles I". Price was again absent today as a result of his illness, hut probably will ho back at his post Thursday. Patrol and paddock judge Leach will also, it is thought, resume his duties I hill-day.
