LAWT0N WIGGINS GREATLY IMPROVED RACER Rejuvenated Son of Planudes Beats Good Opposition in Feature Race at Hamilton. Hamilton. Ont.. June 20.— Lawton Wiggins, a rejuvenated son of Planudes, showed his heels to a band of good racers in the Gibson Handicap, the feature event of the Hamilton Jockey Clubs card this afternoon. He was one of the outsiders iu the betting, canie from the rear in the stretch and heat Lahore and Kverett in a driving liuish. Last season Lawton Wiggins was racing on minor tracks and was bought by his present owner during the Norfolk meeting for 50. In todays race he ran seven eighths in 1:254;, a good performance over any track. Upsets were recorded all afternoon, only two of the eight favorites leading their fields as the winning mark was passed. In the Dominion Handicap, the three year-old St. Bass avenged his defeat by Don-ham on the opening day of the meeting. Fain had the mount on St. Bass and the colt ran back to the form he displayed at Woodbine and Blue Bonnets. He followed Deuham to the furlong post, then dashed to the front anil won with plenty to spare at the finish. Jockeys Shilling and Sweeney each rode two winners. Shillings Victories were scored on Puggins and Roebuck, while Sweeney had the mount on Law-ton Wiggins and G. M. Miller. The latter beat a shifty lot in the dosing dash, over the grass course. It was a selling affair and owner Albert Simons was farced to bid 81.805 to retain his horse. This was an advance of 05 over the entered price. William Walker, former owner of the horse, was responsible for the boost. The brief history of the Dominion Plato is as follows: Year. Winner. Wt. Jockey. Val. Time. 1900 Glimmer .-.5 127 J.
