HEAVY GOING AT LATONIA CONTINUED RAINS LEAVE KENTON COUNTY TRACK IN BAD CONDITION. June 26. — Disagreeable weather and a bad track detracted from the interest In, todays racing at I.atotiia and accounted lor a slump in attendance. The racing was uninteresting, most of the winners scoring in decisive fashion. Favorites fared fairly will, three of them accounting for purses. The defeats of Melvor. Cynosure and Azy-iade were costly to the big bettors and constituted flic main disappointments of the afternoon. Indifferent riding on the part of jockey Class featured the racing. He had the mounts on Cynosure. Melvor, Bourbon Beau. Azyiadc and Silver Knight. His efforts on the last named pair were especially unsatisfactory. On Silver Knight he was astride mucbj the best Torso iii the closing race, hut he kapt hiu» a trailer until the stretch was reached, then tried hard, but was unable to overcome Intrinsics lead. After the finish. M. Michaels, formerly a rider bereabserts, but now controlling a stable racing in South America, bid up tin- winner to ,000 and became her owner. She will be snipped with otic r* to South America. Pi lata SB Callaway proved herself a smart mud performer by taking the feature race in cantering styl* from Koiniak and Mellon Street. Bourbon Beau finished a distant trailer. The speedy cpnrtot that composed the field in the fifth race were mediums of heavy speculation, Azy-iade being held best lcause of uncertainty as to whether Lady Lightning would like the going. Azy-iade ran prominently for the first half mile, then succumbed readily to the much improved Bachelor Gilt. Lady Lightning came with a rush in the stretch to take second place from the favorite. Viley. by winning the opener, enabled W. L. Lewi* to take his first purse of the season. He scoreri cantering after a display of high early speed. Tay Pay showed sudden improvement when he took the third race, with Melvor and Plutocrat trailing. Owner McMarrus is said to have made a big winning oa Tay Pay. Jockeys J. Deavenport and K. Martin were each suspended five days by the starter for disobedience at the asat John Hogan. formerly assistant to starter J. J. Holtman. arrived today from Chicago and distributed the condition books for the races to be held at Hawthorne track. Chicago.
