July 4. — An American record was eemsled at Fort Brie this afternoon when Plate Class run a mile and seventy yards in 1:421 in winning the Fourth of July Handicap. Plate Class carried top "Wight f 123 pounds and was ridden by Gay Burns. He beat the Kentucky Derby winner. Meridian, by a length.
