HAVANA PLANS TAKE SHAPE H. D. BROWN ARRANGING FOR CUBAN RACING ON AMBITIOUS SCALE. Mooting of 100 or More Says Duration Scheduled to Open on Thanksgiving Day with Two 0,000 Stakes and Many Others of less Value. Detroit, Mich., July 18. That horsemen are assured of a place in which lo race the coining winter is shown by the breaking of ground for the new track to be built at Havana. Cuba. II. D. Brown is now in Havana superintending the construction of the plant and writes that it will be completed by November 1. The opening of the new plant will take place on Thanksgiving Day, November 23, witlr the running of a ,500 stake. The stands, stables and paddock will be patterned after the plant at Buenos Ayres and the plant will cost 00,000. There will be stabling accomodations for 1.200 horses and the minimum purse value will be 00. As special attractions there will be a 0,000 Derby, for three-year-olds, with the same conditions as for the Derby that was run at Jacksonville, and a 0,000 Special, patterned after the Florida Special. Mr. Brown will remain In Cuba until the work is well under way and will then return to Laurel to look after his new track there. Those who are backing him in his new venture at Ilavana will spare no expense to make the meeting a success and are arranging for a special boat to be run direct from Baltimore to Havana at the close of the racing in Maryland. This undoubtedly will be gladsome news to horsemen who have licen figuring for the past few months where they would go the coming winter. There will be 100 or mere days racing at Havana, with two stakes each week averaging ,000 in value. The officials for the meeting have been partially engaged. Joseph A. Murphy will serve as presiding judge, P. A. Brady will act as associate judge, while Joseph McLennan will fill the same position of assistant to manager Brown that he did at Moncrief Park. A. B. Dade will likely do the startiug. The building of the Mauds and the stables will be commenced by the first of August. The stands will have a capacity for 10,000 persons. The natives sire more than enthusiastic over the idea of having an up-to-date ami first-class racing plant located there.
