GOSSIP FROM KENTUCKY SOURCES. Louisville, Ky., August 11. Eugene Elrod lias gone to Lexington to consult with the directors of the Kentucky Association relative to improvements in the betting ring at that track which are now going on. lie will suggest several additional improvements to the betting inclosure at the Lexington course, which have been suggested to him in looking over the building now being completed at Churchill Downs. Mr. Elrod thinks Lexington will this fall have the best autumn meeting in the histo-y of the Kentucky Association. He is of the opinion that next month there will be more eastern visitors to central Kentucky than were ever there before for :i race meeting, and the yearling sales, which will take place during the meeting, will be an attraction, as It is the chief public sale of the kind to be held in tills country this year. Mr Elrod savs no change will lie made in the details of running the betting ring at Lexington. The same men who sold tickets and those who registered them, as well as the same cashiers, will be euiploved, and John McLaughlin and John Bain will, as "usual, preside in the auction pool stand. Tli same pair will also be in the liox here and at Latouia. The work of wrecking the historic old clubhouse at Churchill Downs has been finished. Its passing marks the Inst relic of the rule of the late Col. M. Lewis Clark at the Downs. A modern cottage, to :rve as a home for superintendent Keegan, will be erected on the site of the demolished structure and Work on this new building will be begun at once. The grounds in that part or the course will also l;e greatly improved.
