i : REVIEW OF BRITISH COLUMBIA RACING Advices from British Columbia agree that racing is a popular and prosperous sport in that far western domain of King George. Considering the limitations of the population that furnishes the patronage and the restrictions imposed upon the sport by Canadian law, it must be admitted that the showing which British Columbia makes is creditable. The two British Columbia cities In which racing is conducted Vancouver and Victoria are thriving and rapidly growing communities and it is to be expected that racing at both, of these points will keep pace in importance with the development of the country itself. Vancouver is especially fortunate in the possession of a modern racing plant, conducted along progressive lines, in Minora Park, over which course the races of the British Columbia Thoroughbred Association and the Vancouver Jockey Club are regularly held. Victoria is not so well equipped, having only a half-mile track. This was die chief reason for the transferring of the second meeting of the Victoria Country Club to Minora Park at Vancouver this season. The pari-niutucl system of speculation lias been adoped by all the British Columbia racing associations and will in future be employed to the exclusion of bookmaking. The following tabulation conveys an idea of the scope and increasing importance of British Columbia racing: Daily Av. Total Meeting. Date. Days. Races. DIstribn. Distrlbn.
