WOODBINE RESULTS ARE DISAPPOINTING. Day of Upsets at Toronto Course Star Charter Wins the Minoru Handicap from Lahore. TorontoT Ont., September 28. The track at Wood bine dried out remarkably well for todays racing, so those who figured that the mud runners would again have the call were doomed to disappointment, good time beiug made in several of the races. Naturally, with the track in good condition, some excellent racing was witnessed, oxen though the fields ruled light in most of the races. Form followers received many jolts, upsets being frequent. In tba absence of a stake event, the Minoru Handicap, for three-year-olds and over at one mile, stood out as the main attraction of the .day. There were only three starters in tiie race. Lahore was touted as a certain winner of this race, but whatever chances he might have had were ruined by the poor judgment displayed by jockey Burns. He kept the colt under a choking pull for seven furlongs and, although Lahore took the lead at the head of the stretch. Burns never sent him along as he should have. The result was that when Star Charter, which had been the trailer iu the early stages, challenged in the last furlong, be had no trouble in drawing out to win easily. Another upset came with the running of the Brockenburst Steeplechase Handicap, in which The Welkin found the task of carrying 170 pounds too much. She took the lead on the backstretch after Thistledale. the pacemaker, went down, and then opened a big gap. But in the last quarter she tired badly, so that at the last jump Jimmy Lane was on equal terms with her, and in the run home had no trouble in drawing away. Ondramon was made favorite for the Elgin Purse, but, as usual, broke slowly and, while be made up much ground, be could do no better than third. Court Belle beating Rocksprlng a head in a hard drive. A. G. Blakeleys Cold Spring won the Brant Purse, but the victory was not a profitable one, as Sam Louis, who ran second witli Fort Worth, made Mr. Blakeley pay 05 to retain his colt. Eagle Bird, the favorite, ran a dull race and finished fourth. Guy Fisher proved best in the Epsom Handicap, coining with a rush at the end and winning- easily from Sir John Johnson, which had made all the pace, and which ran a good race under his impost of 12G pounds. The Blink Bonny purse furnislic.d a good contest, with Flamtna, which made up much ground at the end, first home, half a length in advance of Flower Girl. The latter was the same margin before the poorlv-haiidled Eton Blue, which was in tight quarters during the last quarter, and probably could have won with clear saiiiug. Tin; closing race furnished a rattling contest and at the end Animus caught tiie pacemaker. Lady Ori-msir. and beat her a head.
