The first official announcements in connection with the organization and operation of the Ottawa Jockey Club have just been made. From time to time during the past few years rumors have been published concerning the association, but it was not until Saturday, when Albert Rohrback of Buffalo, arrived and concluded negotiations, that the club was in a position to make known its plans. Everything is now progressing favorably, and it is the intention of the directors to hold the inaugural meeting about the latter part of June next. The club completed arrangements last week for the purchase of the Stewart farm. This property is situated just west of the Uivcrmead Golf Clubs links, and consists of eighty-live acres of property that is ideal for a race track. The price was 23,-KX. Neither capital nor labor wil be spared in beautifying the park, and it is estimated that the huge grandstand and sumptuous clubhouse, together with a large paddock, will cost in the vicinity of 7,000. Spacious lawns will be constructed in front of the clubhouse and grandstand, and there will be fully 400 stalls. The course will be a mile, with a steeplechase field. Mr. Rohrback will arrive about the middle of March to superintend the completion of the work.
