THOROUGHBRED WORK IN CANADA. Norfolk, Va.. November 30. John F. Ryan, founder of the Montreal Jockey Club, the Canadian National Bureau of Breeding and the Canadian Live Stock Exchange, who was here yesterday, reports a great many men in Montreal and vicinity have recently gone in for raising thoroughbreds. He says that there should be at least forty or fifty three-year-olds eligible for the Quelle Kings Plato of 1914 and that these will represent thirty or forty owners. The breeding bureau work has progressed wonderfully and has made many friends for the thoroughbred. No part of Canada has licen left untouched, and the thoroughbred has been a success everywhere. The National Live Stock Exchange has been started to handle the bureau crop for the cavalry market and also to take charge of the heavy horses which are coming in large numbers from England Scotland, France and Belgium for tho Canadian west. It is planned to have thoroughbred sales, stallion shows, horse parados and a big annual winter fair which will receive government aid and be of special interest to the farmers of eastern Canada. Some of the biggest men in Canada are Interested In the National Exchange, and an effort will le made to make Montreal the horse market of Canada.
