CANADIAN RUNNING RECORDS TO DATE As a natural consequence of the participation of better horses in Canadian racing during the season recently ended than had previously been seen in action in Canada, the racing of 1911 brought several reductions in the Canadian running records for the various distances at which races were run. August Belmonts rriscillian reduced the record for three-quarters of a mile to 1:11 at Hamilton June 10. It. E. Watkins Cliff Edge made a new mark of 1:37 for one mile at Fort Erie July 3. On Uie following day at the same track P. S. P. Randolphs Plate Glass reduced the record for one mile and seventy yards to 1:42. The very next day the Fort Erie track was the scene of another record-breaking performance when August Belmonts Watervale ran one mile and an eighth in 1:50. During the August meeting at the same track B. T. Wilsons Olambala created a new Canadian record for one mile and three sixteenths, when lie ran the distance in 1:57. This constituted the list of new records made during the season over the dirt tracks of the Dominion. S. C. Ilildreths Hampton Court, by running a mile over the turf course at Hamilton August 17 reduced the turf course record for that distance to 1:38. Eecords that were equaled included those for live and a half furlongs and one mile and a sixteenth, the former by S. C. Ilildreths good three-year-old. Novelty, and the lunger distance by August Belmonts Trap Bock. Friscillians three-quarters in 1:11 at Hamilton June 10 equaled the American record for that distance. Olambalas mile and three-sixteenths in 1:57 at Fort Erie August 2 represented a new American record and Trap Bocks mile and a sixteenth in 1:43 equaled tho American record, which had been made by Grttna Green at the same track August 2S, 100!. The only other Canadian record that is likewise an American record is War Whoops two and one-sixteenth miles in 3:34 at Toronto September 2.!, 1905. It is notable that virtually all the Canadian records for the distances at which races are frequently run are now credited to the Fort Eric and Hamilton tracks, with the former decisively in the lead.
