A DWINDLING REMNANT OF THE WORLDS GREATEST STUD nr- - Lexington, Ky., December 4. Through exportation to England, Germany, Belgium, Austria-Hungary and South America and by public auction sales in those countries, James B. Haggin lias reduced his Elmendorf Stud of thoroughbred horses, which in 100S was the largest in all the world, to a mere handful. There are now only 143 thoroughbred horses of the various ages and both sexes on Mr. Haggins great farm near this city. Of these fourteen are stallions, ninety are broodmares and thirty-eight are weanlings. Of the broodmares, however, only forty-one are counted on the farm books as in the thoroughbred stud, for the other forty-nine were for the greater part mated last spring with Shire stallions and it is not intended that they shall ever again suckle full-blooded colts, so they might as well be counted as nonetities in the thoroughbred breeding world. The stallions now at Elmendorf are Watercress, Star Ruby, Goldfinch, Waterboy, Hessian, Galveston, Royal Flush HI., Toddington, Montana, Order. Maxio, Bute, George Kcsslcr and Horatio. This, it Is said, will depend upon the report that John Mackey will make upon his return from Europe, where ho now is making investigations in that direction.
