There was racing three times each week and he rode seventeen winners and was a nnmlicr of times second and third. He was much in demand, hut his mother, upon receipt of cablegrams from Americans requesting his services in France next year, made no contract in writing for his return to Russia. She, however, agreed that in the event he did return to Russia, his" employers during Oetober and November should have the contract on him. Mrs. Thomas expects to know within the next two or three days whether the boy will ride in France or in Russia next season. Thomas C. McDowell today received a telegram from Wayne Joplin. who is at Charleston, S. C. saying that he is quite sure Francis J. Pons and his associates .will have the new track ready for opening on January 10 and that he felt equally certain there would be no interference with the racing. Mr. McDowell said he had decided to remain here until after learning what interpretation is put on the South Carolina law at the hearing which is set for January 4.
