JUAREZ CARD DECIDED IN SNOWSTORM. Cold Wave Swoops Down on Mexican Course and Promising Card Is Riddled. El Paso, Tex., December 14. A snowstorm sprang up iu the early morning hours and racing was carried, on at Juarez this afternoon amid Hurries of snow. So many owners wanted to declare out of the second race that it was called off entirely and another substituted in its place at about 0:30 oclock this morning. Scratches were aIs extremely numerous and robbed the card of a great deal of the promise it held out on paper. The track was not nearly so bad as most of the owners anticipated and the racing was good. Jim Basey took a small but select band into camp in the handicap. Napa Nick, as usual, opened an early lead, but Jim Basey. closing with gameness. wore him down in the final sixteenth and outgamed him at the finish. Dr. Dougherty finished third, many lengths in advance of Meadow, which clearly showed that the track was not to her liking, as she was unable to keep up at all and failed to finish witli her usual burst of speed through the stretch. Only the dyed-in-the-wool regulars braved the elements and the attendance was far below normal proportions.
