NOTES OF THE TURF. Dr. J. F. Keith and Sons, of Sturgeon. Mo., have purchased the seventecu-ycar-old imported stallion The Friar, by Friars Balsam Lizzie Baker, by Lougfellow, and will mate him with their mares, among which are included Oasis. Alice Turner, Maude Wallace, Birdie Stone and Miss Birdie. Dr. Keith is president of the Citizens Bank of Sturgeon and will be represented at the Charleston winter meeting by a string of horses. Gen. John B. Castleman is at St. Anthonys Hospital In Louisville suffering from a wound received in the Civil War which has never healed. During ail engagement, a bullet was imbedded in his left leg, and. although the removal operation for mouths appeared to have lieen successful, the wound developed into a chronic injury. A few days ago the wound became aggravated and to the extent that the General was unable to walk. .Physicians say he will be iu bed for a week.
